Poor Maizy...

Well, Maizy really tested mama's nerves this week when she was caught peeing on the carpet in the living room. We thought it was her lashing out because she knows she'll need to share her territory with Baby P in the near future but we thought we'd cover our bases and have her checked out.

Unfortunately for Grandpa P, he had the privilege of dealing the the kitten (ahem lion). We headed back home with Maizy in tow on Saturday in her pet taxi and she did pretty well during the trip. We let her out of the cage at Grandma and Grandpa P's and she looked around their house remembering those surroundings as being pretty familiar. Then it came time for her appointment.....
Back in the pet taxi she goes and off to the office. As soon as she smelled the familiar smell of the vet office, she freaked out. Hissing, growling, lashing out, hair standing straight up....no lie, she sounded like a lion. We took the lid off of her cage and grandpa P was able to get a hold of her tail long enough to give her a shot and sedate her. After a few minutes, we could do whatever we wanted to her! We groomed her (poor kitty, she had her "problem areas" shaved by some pretty inexperienced groomers and she looks pretty silly but it's about function over form for us with spring here), weighed her (14 pounds, whoa, think kitty needs some exercise??) clipped her nails, vaccinated her and tested her urine. Sure enough, the poor baby has a urinary tract infection. He gave her a shot of penicillin, changed her food and sent us home with some antibiotics. We opted to let her wake up on her own so about 6 hours after her initially going to sleep...she slowly woke up. She was so groggy and I made the mistake of letting her out of her kennel before she was completely awake, she was walking around like a drunken sailor. When she woke up this morning, she was much better and she's back to begging for treats. Whew. I'm just very glad that she had a problem other than just being a little stinker. She couldn't help it. She gets another chance....until next time...
